GANGNEUNG, South Korea — In Gangneung Olympic Park, you can always find something to do.
A little pin trading, a lot of walking and a lot of standing in line. But one line in particular stands out.
At the Olympics, you might think the long lines would be to get into an event or to meet a gold medalist, but that is not the case at Olympic Park. In fact, it’s the line to get into McDonald’ – yes, the Golden Arches.
We met three Slovenian hockey fans in line — two from Europe and one from Michigan whose husband plays on the team.
“I will say for the record, I love my native land, but obviously, it’s my husband, so I have to support him.”
Then, we found a Park City Olympian’s mom.
Libby Bohonnon said her son Mac, an aerialist, is doing fine. He’ll compete in the qualifying round Saturday.
And some born and bred Utahns are here.
There’s nothing special about the Olympic Park McDonald’s menu. In fact, it’s pretty limited, which makes it a bit surprising to see so many Americans in line.
“I actually hate McDonald’s, but it makes me feel like I’m at home.”
Perhaps what brings people here is the firm reminder that when you’re away, something as American as apple pie can bring you home.
