OGDEN, Utah – Police in Weber County were trying to figure out what happened to a man whose body was found near the 21st Street Pond in Ogden.
Captain Danielle Croyle with the Ogden Police Department said they got information around 4 a.m. Thursday that there was a body in a wooded area near the River Walkway Trail on the east side of the 21st Street Pond.
When investigators arrived, Croyle said they found the body of a man in his mid-20s to early 30s. She said the body had some trauma to it, but did not elaborate.
“I know that they have a couple of witnesses that they are interviewing at this time, but there’s not significant leads – and we’re still looking for significant leads to help us in this case,” Croyle said.
Croyle said they were trying to figure out if the man had been camping near the pond. She said they have seen an increase in people camping out in that area since Salt Lake City officials intensified their homelessness efforts.
Croyle said they did not believe there was a threat to the public.
“We think this might be an isolated incident, maybe some form of an altercation or an accident,” she said.
An autopsy on the man’s body was scheduled for Friday. His identity was not released.
