Sep 18, 2018, 10:22 AM
Social media came to life Tuesday when the very first “Captain Marvel” trailer dropped.
Starring Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, this will be the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be headlined by a solo female superhero.
And it’s something social media has been pining for.
Larson was especially proud

As a big fan of comics and a big fan of cinema, there are very few things as exciting as seeing a favorite character come alive like this.@brielarson truly is our Captain. Can’t wait to see the full movie! #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/2qVdIyUmg9

I love how they figured out a way to plausibly incorporate her memory loss and the experiments on her that make her Binary. #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/JkEq8oWtfe

the word ‘her’ making the word ‘hero’ appear by gaining letters and not ‘hero’ turning into ‘her’ by losing letters means that #CaptainMarvel is gonna reverse the dusting and defeat thanos pic.twitter.com/hlifOdiIfT

Others recounted their own connections to Captain Marvel
I first started reading Carol in 1979; I was 5. My love for her is two-fold. In her comic, she was one of the only role models I had growing up–at all–and her life, minus the powers, runs parallel to my own. Here’s to nearly 40 years of getting back up. 😭💪💥 #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/QGDyPSQoYj

The trailer was inspirational
Honestly I think my main takeaway from the #CaptainMarvel trailer is I want an all-female remake of Top Gun. pic.twitter.com/dvggBbOzkl

And it was nostalgic
I’m nostalgic for Blockbuster on Friday nights. Thanks #CaptainMarvel

But most of all, social media celebrated some serious female empowerment
Nothing but respect for the most powerful avenger.
