SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Democratic state Sen. Jim Dabakis will run for Salt Lake City mayor in 2019, he announced Tuesday.
Dabakis has served as Utah’s 2nd District state senator since December 2012 when he was elected to fill now congressman-elect Ben McAdams’ empty seat. He served as chairman of the Utah State Democratic Party prior to his election.
“The eight years of public service … have been the most challenging and rewarding of my life. I am forever grateful to the people for their trust and support,” Dabakis said in an emailed statement.
He will face incumbent Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Salt Lake City Councilman Stan Penfold.
