Person Dies In Kearns House Fire, Authorities Say

KEARNS, Utah – Officials responded to a house fire on Christmas Eve that left one person and one pet dead.
The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday in the area of 4300 West and 5300 South.
Patrick Costin, Unified Fire Authority public information officer, said it appears the fire originated in the basement, though the cause is still under investigation.
When crews arrived, they searched the home and discovered a 42-year-old man deceased. Another resident was able to escape.
A dog was also found dead inside the house.
The identity of the deceased individual has not yet been released.
No firefighters were injured.
Costin said there is fire damage to the home’s basement as well as smoke damage on the main level.
