Nicole Vowell joined the KSL 5 TV team in August of 2014 as a general assignment reporter and fill-in Anchor. Before making the Beehive State her home she lived the Lone Star life, working as a reporter and weekend evening anchor at KETK-NBC in Tyler, Texas.
Nicole grew up in Lexington Kentucky, but moved the Metro-Detroit when she was a teenager. She stayed in the Detroit though college where she earned her honors degree in Broadcast Journalism from Wayne State University.
Nicole knew she wanted to be to be a storyteller ever since high school, where she took her first broadcast communications class. There, she fell in love with the business. “Everyone has a story, I knew I wanted to be in a profession where I could help share them,” Nicole said. She continued her passion for journalism by contributing to her University’s news station, and as an intern at two TV news stations in Detroit—WJBK-TV Fox 2 News, and WDIV-TV Local 4.
Since being at KSL Nicole has covered a number of major news events including the deadly flash-floods of 2015 in Southern Utah and Zion National Park. She has also worked on a number of investigative stories, many of which had a hand in making major changes to Utah’s criminal justice system.
When Nicole isn’t in the field chasing stories, she likes to read, watch Law and Order, cook, work out, and go on spontaneous adventures, exploring new Utah home! She hopes to write a book one day about all of her interesting experiences in the news business.
