WESTON, FL – A Florida home owner saw a terrifying scene unfold on his baby monitor this week – A man, breaking into his home.
No one else was home at the time, but Guillermo Gonzalo said he still feels violated.
Wednesday afternoon Gonzalo said he kept receiving notifications that someone was in his house. The alerts came from his nanny cam.
Usually Gonzalo uses the nanny cam to check on his toddler in her crib.
But Wednesday the alerts notified Gonzalo of someone else coming right through his daughter’s window.
Gonzalo saw a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt prying open the the window and climbing right in. As he sees this happening on his smart phone- he calls 9-1-1.
Gonzalo said, “Oh it was horrible. This is your daughter’s bedroom.” The good thing, no one was home.
Gonzalo thinks the intruder first cut the screen and tried going in through the back, before breaking into his daughter’s window.
“Someone had removed the screen, must’ve put two screwdrivers or at least a crowbar — jammed it in behind here where there’s two notches,” said Gonzalo.
He said the hooded-man first rummaged through the toddler’s changing station. Then he went into his wife’s closet. “And came immediately for her jewelry box,” said Gonzalo.
After stealing purses and old cell phones, that’s when Gonzalo said the thief, in an “Italia” sweatshirt and red gloves, closes up his daughter’s window before splitting.
Deputies arrive moments later. just missing the thief. “You feel powerless. And you’re the provider of the house – you’re the father, the husband. You’ve got to make sure people are protected. And – this is supposed to be your fortress and you can’t do anything about it,” said Gonzalo.
Police are still looking for the suspect.
Gonzalo said he’s now using hurricane shutters to protect his home.
