Millcreek homeowners may be on the hook after water main break

Homeowners in Millcreek believe water has been bubbling up for some time now.
Janine McDonald woke up to a familiar but dreaded sound.
“I could hear the pump was working. There was no water on the ground. And it was pumping it up and doing what it should do. Then I came back at like 8 a.m. and there was water covering the whole basement,” McDonald said.
She had six inches of water.
McDonald said this is not the first time high ground water flooded her basement, but it’s by far the worst — causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.
“I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news. This is horrible. You have some damage that will take seven days to dry out,” her neighbor Jason Digilio told her.
On the road, you can see some work was been done in the last couple of weeks.
The homeowners association called in a plumbing company to fix the water line, though homeowners question why a private contractor is working on the issue instead of the city.
“Hopefully they’ll get this thing fixed. They are working on it now. They are working on the road. Maybe we will have some answer shortly,” Digilio said.
Salt Lake City Public Utilities said the road is private, and it’s up to the homeowners association to repair the damage.
It’s unclear at this point when the water will come back on.
