SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Transit Authority is suspending Frontrunner service between Ogden and Pleasant View, citing safety reasons. The system was designed with Positive Train Control to help prevent collisions, derailments and other problems, but those safety features are not installed in the section between Ogden and Pleasant View.
The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 requires UTA to upgrade the system by the end of 2018. UTA estimates the upgrades will cost at $1.5 million. Service on the route is scheduled to stop on Aug. 12, 2018.
UTA is asking for the public’s input on other possible transit options with two public meetings:
Monday, March 12
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Pleasant View Municipal Building (520 W. Elberta Drive)
Wednesday, March 14
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ogden Council Chambers (505 E. 2600 N.)
