SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man was in the hospital facing surgery Friday night, after a car hit him and then drove away.
“I was surprised when I got hit,” said the man, Herb Adkinson. “I just went up in the air and came right down basically on my face.”
Adkinson said he was trying to cross 300 East near 3400 South Thursday night after 9:00 p.m., when the sedan struck him.
“I knew my leg was broken,” Adkinson said. “I didn’t find out about the pelvis (also broken) until later.”
Adkinson still can’t believe the car that hit him never stopped.
“People don’t damn pay attention!” he exclaimed from his hospital bed. “I hope he or the persons turn themselves in or get caught.”
Adkinson said he was uncertain of the make or color of the sedan, though he said some people at the scene believed it may have been a white car.
South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Oehler said investigators found several broken pieces from a passenger side mirror in the road, so the sedan may have damage in that area.
Detectives said anyone with information about the collision or the driver and car involved should call dispatch at 801-840-4000.
