Making Classical Music “Cool”?
Who would have thought that some dads from Utah could make classical music “cool”? But that’s exactly what The Piano Guys have done. The group, consisting of pianist Jon Schmidt, cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, videographer Paul Anderson, and music producer Al van der Beek, have hit a chord with music fans around the world.
The Miracle Of Music: The Piano Guys
Where does The Piano Guy’s musical gift come from? Is it a miracle? This KSL-TV documentary explores how the band of Utah fathers came together, how they write their music and why they turn down invitations to tour and perform on a daily basis. Hint: It has to do with putting family first.
A YouTube Success Story
The Piano Guys gained popularity through YouTube. In 2010 they began posting professional-quality videos of piano and cello compositions combining classical, contemporary, and rock and roll music. In August 2016 the group surpassed 1 billion views and 5 million YouTube subscribers. Their first 5 major-label albums, The Piano Guys, The Piano Guys 2, A Family Christmas, Wonders, and Uncharted each reached number one on the Billboard Classical Albums and New Age Albums charts.
