HERRIMAN, Utah – It may be just the spot to dodge the rain with your family, but you may also have to dodge some Nerf darts.
Galactic Tag opened a Nerf arena Friday in Herriman Plaza, at 13256 South 5600 West, where you can literally have a blast with a Nerf blaster. The owner is eager to offer new entertainment and team building in the fastest growing part of the valley.
“Everybody’s welcome: we say from 5 to 95,” said owner Keith Rust, who opened the entertainment business after considering several other ideas. He said he wanted to include some learning with the play.
“I wanted to do something that was fun that also kind of incorporated the team building aspect of it,” he said. “Even if they have some level of animosity, if they’re working in a team, and as they coordinate with each other and help each other, they start to be friendlier to each other.”
It’s not a bad place to bond with family and friends, or even coworkers, as you blast away. I picked out a Nerf blaster, put on some protective glasses and joined a group of kids teamed up with their mother. A referee talks over the speaker system, starting specific games played by the teams in the area. He also makes sure things don’t get too out of control.
The kids KSL talked with all seemed to like hiding behind the obstacles in the arena, and tagging out their friends. There’s something liberating about running around with a Nerf blaster, firing brightly colored, spongy projectiles at each other, and screaming with glee.
“For them, this is a great place,” said Kent Randall of Herriman, who came in with his kids.
But, he was having just as much fun running around the arena tagging out his kids.
“One of the things that we talk about as a family is that sometimes we have to, in Herriman, go to Riverton or South Jordan for activities. So, it’s nice to have something that is literally next door,” he said. “On a dreary day, or even a wintry day, this is a nice place to be able to come and get some exercise and have some fun.”
There is no appointment necessary. Galactic Tag offers four tiers of pricing from $10 an hour to $18 an hour, depending on the blaster you choose.
“That basically gets you a better, and better blaster,” said Rust.
They also offer group packages, monthly passes, and corporate sessions.
“Where we have a professional team builder come in and actually train the employees, and help them work together so they’re more effective back in the workplace,” said Rust.
