MURRAY, Utah – A fire gutted the rear portion of a Murray home and damaged cars and a garage at another, early Thursday morning.
Murray Fire Department Battalion Chief Joseph Treadwell said the fire started on the back patio of a house along Riverbend Drive around 1:30 AM. He said the fire did about $250,000 worth of damage to that home. At the house next door, a car and truck were damaged, as well as the exterior wall of a garage.
Tiffiny Lee lives in the home next door and said neighbors woke her up to tell her there was a fire.
“Came out and it was just huge. The flames were huge. I couldn’t tell if my house was on fire too,” she said.
She and her family left their home and watched as firefighters got the flames under control. While they looked on, other neighbors approached to offer help.
“It means the world when you’re watching all this happen and you don’t know if you’re still going to have a home and you know your neighbors aren’t going to have a home anymore,” Lee said.
Treadwell said six people were living in the home that suffered most of the damage. He said the American Red Cross was helping the people find housing. No one was injured. Investigators are not sure what caused the fire.
