SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – City, county, and state leaders broke ground Monday morning on a new homeless resource center that is slated to open in July 2019. The Geraldine E. King Women’s Center will be focused on getting people the resources they need to get treatment for addictions, get employed, and get their own housing.
“Once they’re homeless, we want to get them back on their feet,” Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox said. “Get them training, job help, addiction treatment, anything they need to get them back on their feet. That’s the difference with this resource center.”
The center is one of three that are planned to open in 2019. Another in Salt Lake City will be located at 275 High avenue. A third, set for a location in South Salt Lake is still overcoming some administrative hurdles to get underway. The Geraldine E. King Center will be located directly across the street from the Utah Department of Workforce Services. Organizers say that is not a coincidence.
“We’re feeling good about this new integrated model,” Workforce Services Division Director Jonathan Hardy said. “Having these services so close by is a big important thing for us.”
