SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The Trans-Jordan Landfill in South Jordan is not the typical place for a first date, or even a date in general. Salt Lake County Health Department tweeted it out in a list of six ideas of potential date activities. It started as a response to a post on Reddit. Someone posted on a Salt Lake thread asking for date ideas.
“I always think what would be a funny response that also pushes some of our programs,” says David Skorut, social media and digital specialist for Salt Lake County Health Department.
Skorut came up with a list of six ideas for date activities that revolve around services offered by the department and posted them as a response.
“Obviously, these are pretty awful date ideas,” Skorut says.
Ideas like getting immunized together, reading history of the health department or collecting Household Hazardous Waste and taking it to the landfill. After posting on Reddit, Skorut added lots of emojis and tweeted out the ideas too.
Soon after the tweet went out, someone on Twitter found a date, and set up an activity to go dispose of some Household Hazardous Waste. The date is scheduled for August 1. Skorut didn’t share the ideas thinking someone would act on them, but he’s more than happy to make sure the upcoming date is fun.
“We’ll see if we can get some cute photos for them, prom-style things and we’ll see how it goes,” Skorut says.
Skorut’s main goal was to increase awareness and education about some of the services the Health Department offers in a way that might capture more people’s attention.
