SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah – The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating after a man apparently fell from an overpass onto Interstate 80 and was hit by several vehicles early Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant Anthony Carrubba said they began receiving calls of a body in the westbound lanes of I-80 near the SR-202 overpass. As investigators arrived, Carrubba said they could not find any indication that the man’s death was a suicide or that there was any foul play.
“Maybe left a rave out at Saltair. He was heading southbound, it looks like, on that structure over I-80 when he got sick. He may have been vomiting over the side of the rail and probably fell,” Carrubba said.
Carrubba said at least two vehicles hit the man. A semi driver who hit him stopped at the scene to talk to police. He said they later heard from another driver who thought he had hit debris in the road. They want to hear from any drivers who may have seen what happened. Carrubba said the medical examiner would likely perform an autopsy on the man Monday. They have not released his name.
