Draper Fire Battalion Chief Matt Burchett Laid To Rest

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Draper City Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Burchett, the firefighter who lost his life battling the Mendocino Complex Fire in California, was laid to rest after an emotional funeral and procession through the Salt Lake and Utah Valleys.
The funeral was held Monday at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. Touching tributes were given by members of the Unified Fire Authority and Draper City Fire Department. Burchett spent time working with both agencies.
Several members of his family also spoke, including his sisters, his brother and his father, who played the last three voice mails he had from his son. He also left a final voice mail of his own on his son’s phone.
Burchett’s casket was carried by a Draper fire engine, and escorted by several first responders. He was laid to rest during a private ceremony in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Provo.
