OGDEN, Utah – A Utah girl is living a new life with 10 fingers, thanks to a pretty awesome custom 3D printed prosthetic.
KSL was there when she got to see her new five-fingered hand for the very first time. It was a life-changing moments for 12-year-old Andi Cottle.
Born without a complete right hand, Andi now has the first prosthetic hand built by 3D printing firm WhiteClouds in Ogden.
Vibrant blue, the hand encompassed her love of dragons.
Andi can now close her “fingers” by moving in her wrist, making it possible to grasp items. She couldn’t stop closing her fist, over and over.
“To see her finally be able to have that motion was – it’s indescribable,” said Cassie Cottle, Andi’s mom.
“(Her disability has) never limited her, so it will be amazing to see what possibilities this new hand opens for her in the future,” said Andi’s father, Jake Cottle.
Andi’s dad was excited to see how the new hand ups Andi’s basketball game.
This all came about after Andi asked her teacher about the possibility of a 3D printer making her a hand.
Her teacher got in touch with WhiteClouds, and they got to work doing something they’d never done before.
