WEST JORDAN, Utah — A 20-year-old Midvale man died after a shooting at a West Jordan fast food restaurant.
Police said an 18-year-old, a 22-year-old, and a 17-year-old are in custody facing charges in connection with this shooting early Thursday morning.
Police have still not released their names or the name of victim.
Jose Arellano owns the Rancherito’s where this happened on Redwood Road near 7800 South.
He said he was sleeping and missed the calls about the shooting inside his restaurant around 12:30 a.m.
“I just talked to one guy, it was the night shift guy,” Arellano said. “That’s the one who kind of told me the story, what was going on, and I was shocked. I was surprised.”
What happened
Police said two males walked inside and fought with two others eating. They said the verbal dispute turned deadly.
The 20-year-old was shot multiple times. He died at a hospital.
“One witness described it as happening very quickly in a matter of minutes,” said West Jordan Police Department Lt. Jeremy Robertson.
Even though Arellano knows there’s some risk owning a restaurant that’s open 24 hours a day, he’d never had anything happen like this before.
“Never, never happened at this location, especially at West Jordan,” he said. “You don’t hear of something like this.”
His restaurant has reopened, police continue to investigate, and a local family has learned of the loss of a loved one.
“Like I said, I just got here and I wasn’t aware of this and it caught me off guard to be honest,” said Arellano.
West Jordan Police said they plan to release more information Thursday afternoon.
