UTAH COUNTY, Utah – Crews will resume the search Saturday for a hiker missing on Mount Timpanogos for more than 10 days.
Jacob “Jake” Warner Routt, 36, told a friend on Sept. 16, he was going on a hike and would be in touch later, but the friend never heard back, according to Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Spencer Cannon.
Routt is known to go on adventures and stay at Airbnbs at the last minute, so family and friends weren’t worried initially when they didn’t hear from him. But as time passed without hearing from him, they reported him missing.
UCSO and Orem police, along with helicopters from DPS and a SAR team member, have been searching for Routt since Thursday, Cannon said.
Orem police couldn’t get a current ping on his phone, but they found an old ping from Sept. 16, near the Aspen Grove trail on Mt. Timpanogos.
Cannon said police found Routt’s car at the Aspen Grove trailhead parking lot and a DPS helicopter spotted some of Routt’s belongings near Aspen Grove in a steep area with cliffs.
