OREM, Utah – Orem police shot and killed a person who they said came at officers with a knife.
The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, at a home along Paradise Drive near 600 East.
Lieutenant Craig Martinez said officers were called to the home for a “family problem.”
“At some point when they were inside the home, they encountered a male suspect who came at them armed with a knife. One of our officers tried to tase the man. That didn’t work, at which time both officers actually fired several shots, striking him. They immediately started CPR. Kept up the CPR until paramedics arrived, where the man was scooped up and taken to a local hospital, where unfortunately he passed away,” Martinez said.
Friday evening, police had not released the person’s name, or said whether he was an adult or a minor.
Martinez said one officer had a cut on the hand that may require stitches, but was otherwise unharmed. It was unclear how the officer’s hand was cut.
The Utah County Attorney’s Office will investigate what happened. The Orem Police Department will also conduct their own investigation.
