EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah – Utah County deputies are looking for help finding whoever shot and killed a dog in a family’s backyard.
This is the second unsolved shooting death of a dog in Eagle Mountain in the past seven months.
Utah County Sheriff’s Office says both shootings happened near each other, north of Highway 73.
The first happened in April. This latest shooting occurred this Sunday.
Leanza Laub found 5-year-old Roxy dead Sunday afternoon after running errands.
“She was a great dog. We took her camping with us. My kids loved her,” she said of the Australian Shepherd shot dead in her own backyard near Autumn and Elkridge Drives.
“Everybody has dogs over here. I don’t, I’m still shocked at why it even happened. I have no idea,” she said, as her family continues to process what happened.
Utah County deputies say Roxy was fenced in. Roxy’s partner Red and their puppies were not injured.
“I don’t know if somebody was messing around, and she just happened to catch a bullet or what. They were thinking maybe a BB gun or a pellet gun,” said Laub.
Now the Laub family is looking for answers.
“Something come forward, so we can find out who did this, because it’s a scary thing to think of somebody coming around shooting into people’s yards whether it’s a dog, an animal, or a child.”
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information or security video footage related to this incident to call the Eagle Mountain office at 801-789-6701 or Utah Valley Dispatch at 801-794-3970.
