DUCK CREEK VILLAGE, Utah – An Enoch man died and another person was injured after their vehicle rolled 40 feet down an embankment on a snowy highway in southern Utah on Thursday, authorities said.
Utah Highway Patrol officials said Edwin Hackley, 80, died in the crash about 6 miles west of Duck Creek Village, Kane County. A female passenger was transported by ambulance to Cedar City Hospital in unknown condition.
Troopers said Hackley was driving a white Jeep Wrangler east on state Route 14 when he lost control of the vehicle, spun off the road and hit a rock. The Jeep then rolled about 40 feet down a steep embankment.
Hackley was ejected in the crash and died at the scene. The crash was reported by a snowplow driver who saw the wreckage about an hour and a half after the crash occurred.
The crash remains under investigation. UHP officials said the highway was slick due to snowy conditions in the area at the time.
