SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Drug overdoses in the United States have risen to a record high, which has driven down life expectancy throughout the country.
A new report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed drug overdose deaths rose by about 70,000 in 2017 — an increase of almost 10 percent.
The report also showed suicide rates rose by nearly 4 percent.
Together, those two causes of death have lowered life expectancy in the United States for the second year in a row.
