We are saddened but so deeply inspired and touched by the life and impact of George HW Bush. Few have been more committed to pure public service then this good man and his family. To say that he shaped our own career choices would be an understatement. We followed him to Washington after his election in 1988 and later Jon became his US ambassador to Singapore. But we will never forget our common experience having both served our country as ambassador to China 35 years apart – which he told us was his best job ever. We joked later about having shared the same bedroom in the same home with the same tree used by our dogs to relieve themselves. He continues to impact our family with son Jon making his first aircraft carrier landing on the USS George HW Bush. May his legacy continue to inspire generations to come. Blessed to have had the honor of knowing him – and beautiful Barbara. May they together Rest In Peace.
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement Saturday after the death of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush:
“We are grateful today for the life and service of President George H. W. Bush. We honor him as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a man of deep conviction who dedicated his life in service to country, family and faith. We express our love to the Bush family. We have been blessed by his legacy of service and devotion, and we pray they will be granted God’s peace as they remember and celebrate his remarkable life.”
Utah Attorney General Sean D. Reyes issued this statement on former President Bush:
“I have fond memories of President George H.W. Bush and deep gratitude for his lifetime filled with service to our country. Among many roles, he was a WWII Aviator, Congressman, two-time Ambassador, CIA Director, Vice-President for President Reagan, and the 41st President of the United States. A man of faith, family, and a patriot. A long life and one well lived. My prayers and condolences to the Bush family.
May his legacy join us as a nation in good will “…like a brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky” (George H.W. Bush, Presidential nomination acceptance speech, August 18, 1988).”
This is a developing story and we will continue to add tributes as they come in.
