Evergreen Tree Stolen Right Out Of Front Yard

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A real life Grinch in Salt Lake City didn’t steal the who-pudding or the roast beast, but what they took left a big hole. The thief stole a tree right out of front yard.
“It’s frustrating,” said Kipp Lee. “It’s not in the spirit of Christmas.”
Lee planted the tree, along with a dozen others, about 13 years ago on the property he managed at 528 South 1100 East. Saturday afternoon, the tree was gone.
“I just noticed a void in the yard, because we had this lush tree over here. All of a sudden I just noticed there was two feet of a tree left,” said Lee. “Obviously, somebody must have chopped it that morning while I was a work.”
The only evidence left behind was a stump where a beautiful, 8-foot Black Hills spruce tree used to stand.
“(It was) definitely not an accident,” said Lee. “It was very deliberate and well-planned.”
Lee didn’t know the thief’s motive, but said he had a good guess.
“Somebody obviously needed a Christmas tree,” he said. “To the person who stole it, I hope you enjoy the tree.”
Lee said he filed a police report, but unless someone saw it happen or knows who did it, the spot in the corner of the yard where the spruce tree once stood will now be empty, just in time for Christmas.
“I just think that’s in poor spirit for the holidays. I just think it’s rotten,” said Lee. “Like the Grinch, definitely.”
