SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Western United States is entering a second decade of drought, and the Colorado River’s levels keep dropping..
State officials will be meeting in Las Vegas this week to discuss the overtaxed river, which is a result of the ongoing drought.
On Thursday, representatives from Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, as well as the federal government, will discuss how crop irrigation and drinking water are currently exhausting the Colorado River.
A crucial share-the-pain plan was expected to be drafted by the end of the year, but it appears that won’t happen.
In all, 40 million people in the U.S. and Mexico and millions of acres of farmland rely on the Colorado for their water.
