PARK CITY, Utah – Beginning Wednesday, some of the best ski jumpers from around the world will be competing in Utah.
KSL TV’s adventure specialists Trace Worthington and Sean Smith headed to Utah Olympic Park to talk with some of those ski jumpers getting ready for the competition.
Olympic Gold Medalist Billy Demong is the executive director of USA Nordic, which is heading up the international competition that’s attracted 20 athletes from eight different nations.
“I’ve been busy the last couple of years building up our events and our teams,” Demong said. “We’ve got some really amazing things going on this week.”
The Nordic combined events will be happening Wednesday and Thursday mornings, and FIS Cup Ski Jumping trial rounds will be held in the evenings.
“We’re going to try to capture that magic that happened out here with Olympic trials last year,” Demong said.
He said there’ll be fire pits, a mini ski jump for kids, and a giant VIP tent.
“Guess what?” he said. “Everybody’s VIP.”
Demong said the next generation of Olympians will be competing.
Nordic combined events begin at 8 a.m. and ski jumping begins at 5 p.m., both at Utah Olympic Park, 3419 Olympic Pkwy., Park City.
