SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After a male sea lion named Diego got sick, Hogle Zoo posted a reminder on their Facebook page – keep track of your belongings near animal enclosures.
On Sunday, Diego began acting sick. He lost interest in training, and threw up blood, his keepers said.
Fortunately, his keepers said, Diego was able to get out what was making him ill – a toddler sock that he had swallowed.
“Friends, animals can die from eating foreign objects,” the zoo posted.
Diego is now back out swimming in Rocky Shores.
In a final reminder, Hogle Zoo posted, “Watch those little toddler socks, gloves, flip-flops, phones etc. And please, if you do drop something, please tell someone! Do not feel too embarrassed to let us know. We can retrieve the item if we know about it.”
