SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – Police have identified the man they say killed his 26 year old girlfriend inside a South Salt Lake apartment.
24-year-old Angelo Terry Kirstine was booked on murder charges Tuesday.
Police say they responded to the Eight 20 Apartments off 3900 South in South Salt Lake just before 1 a.m. when 911 was called by Kirstine’s grandfather who found his grandsons girlfriend dead and stabbed in the neck.
Police say they also received a call from the University of Utah’s med center stating Kirstine had been driven there by family member for some type of mental issue and that he stated he hurt someone, and they needed to be checked on. Campus police held Kirstine until South Salt Lake officers responded and then they took him into custody and booked him. Police say Kirstine and his girlfriend were not alone at the time of the stabbing.
“From what we understand there was a person inside the apartment, a 15-year-old sister to the suspect, but apparently they are saying she didn’t hear anything. But again we are trying to develop more information as we speak,” said Executive Officer Gary Keller with the South Salt Lake Police Department.
Detectives are working with the coroner’s office to determine the woman’s time of death and the motive for the killing. Police say Kirstine lived at home with his family in the apartment and the girlfriend did not live there.
The case will be screened by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office.
