SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Natural History Museum of Utah will soon be the land of dinosaurs when DinoFest 2019 begins Friday.
KSL TV’s adventure specialist Trace Worthington headed over to the museum Thursday to discover what’s in store for the weekend.
“I’m lucky enough to be the curator of paleontology here at the museum,” said Randy Irmis. “I get to hang out with all these dinosaurs and fossils every day.”
Irmis was on hand to show off the museum’s newest family member: the akainacephalus johnsoni.
It was a bulky, armored dinosaur with a club on the end of its tail. Irmis happened to have a replica of the club to show off.
“Imagine having that hanging off the back end!” he laughed.
DinoFest, happening Jan. 26 and 27, will bring leading paleontologists from around the country, and the museum will have its paleo prep lab and paleontology collections open. It will also include hands-on activities for all ages.
