PROVO, Utah – A woman was seriously injured Monday night in Provo after a car hit her while she was in a crosswalk, police say.
Around 5:30 p.m., a 44-year-old woman was walking in the south crosswalk at 800 North and 500 West in Provo. A female motorist driving east on 800 North turned south onto 500 West and struck the woman, according to Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King.
The woman who was hit was taken to a local hospital and is in serious condition, but does not have any life-threatening injuries, King said.
The driver is cooperating with police and no impairment is suspected, she added.
Police don’t believe the intersection is dangerous and that the accident happened due to heavy traffic.
“If we were to send out any kind of message — you know, at this time of day, there’s such heavy traffic that being very conscientious and very aware of your surroundings — being a defensive driver is important, ” King said.
Police did not identify the driver or the victim.
