SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Southern winds are picking up, warming areas like the Salt Lake valley and turning the snow in higher elevations into rain.
However, a winter storm warning was still in effect Thursday for Wasatch Mountain areas and I-80 North including cities of Woodruff, Randolph, Alta, Brighton and Mirror Lake Highway.

An avalanche warning was in place until 6 a.m. Thursday for Wasatch Mountains I-80 North.
According to the Utah Avalanche Center, avalanche dangers were high in the Uintas backcountry areas and considerable in Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake, Provo and Skyline backcountry areas.
Backcountry areas in Moab and Abajos had moderate avalanche dangers.
Wednesday’s storm dropped snow on some places, and northern Wasatch areas like Cache Valley will see that snow turn to rain Thursday.
KSL TV meteorologist Grant Weyman said the rain will be picking up into the afternoon, and temperatures will be in the mid 40s.
More rain and snow is expected Friday, as well.
