DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A news release from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints posted to Mormon Newsroom for the Dominican Republic added more insight into the circumstances surrounding the death of Elder Brennan Conrad earlier this week.
The church’s release said Conrad died Wednesday February 20th after falling from the roof of the apartment building where he was living in Santo Domingo.
According to his missionary companion, he went up to the roof with a bucket to find water.
An official report cited in the church’s release said Conrad came in contact with an electric cable while on the roof which is presumed to have caused his tragic fall.
The release also gives more information about Conrad’s time in the mission field.
A week before his passing, Elder Conrad had been assigned as a district leader, overseeing several missionaries in his area.
His mission president, Bret G. Smith, spoke of Conrad’s attributes as a missionary here, translated from spanish:
Elder Conrad was a great man, with exceptional faith. When he arrived in the country, we could feel something very special about him. At that time, we decided to change my special assistant, Elder Burrell, and put Elder Conrad with him to serve in the El Almirante sector. They had never been together and had to learn how to handle the affairs of the congregation … practically, they arrived blank, as we would say.
Earlier this week the missionaries family released a statement expressing their heartbreak at the loss and gratitude for support they’ve received.
A GoFundMe* account has been set up for those wishing to help the family in Brennan’s memory.
