SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Crews had to postpone some bridgework Monday night due to high winds, which will result in additional nights of road closures on I-80.
The Utah Department of Transportation closed westbound lanes in Tooele County Monday night and reopened the road Tuesday morning. However, crews were unable to set some girders in place because of the wind. UDOT has rescheduled the work for Tuesday night and will close westbound lanes again from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Eastbound lanes were scheduled to close Tuesday night, but that construction has also been pushed back a day, according to UDOT.
Update: Due to high winds last night, crews were unable to set girders in place for the new SR 36 bridge. The I-80 Westbound closure is pushed back a day and crews will attempt again tonight to complete bridge work. @UtahDOT @UDOTTRAFFIC @UtahTrucking @TooeleCity

Drivers will be detoured from Exit 99 onto state Route 36 while construction is taking place. Officials said the detour will add approximately seven minutes to the commute.
UDOT crews are working on a project that will update three bridges along the highway.
