LIVE UPDATES: New Storm Causing Issues On Utah Roads

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Another winter storm began blanketing the state with fresh snow Friday, causing incidents on Utah roads.

Utah Highway Patrol said no one was caught or injured in the avalanche in Provo Canyon. They also gave an update on road closures.
Troopers have closed SR-189 and SR-92 in both directions due to dangerous avalanche conditions in both canyons. An avalanche did occur at MM 13 on SR-192. It is currently blocking the EB lanes. No one was caught or injured. We will advise when the roadways are reopened. pic.twitter.com/lCXjwzMkPI

UDOT crews are responding to an avalanche in Provo Canyon. It is unknown at this time if any cars were hit or anyone was injured.

Snow plows are currently working in Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon, where roads are hazardous. American Fork Canyon and SR-92 to Sundance are also experiencing hazardous conditions. Drivers in those areas should expect impaired travel and delays.
1:30 p.m.
Little Cottonwood Canyon will be closed from 2 – 3:30 p.m. for avalanche control.

Mountain road snow is expected into Saturday morning and valleys are expected to continue getting road snow and slush. UDOT is warning drivers to expect some hazardous road conditions and drive appropriately: slow down and increase the distance between vehicles.
Drivers on the following roads should expect those weather conditions: I-80, entire route; I-70 from the Idaho border to Black Ridge; I-84, entire route; I-215, entire route; US 89 from the Idaho border to Glendale/Orderville; US 6 from the I-15 junction to Wellington; US 40, entire route; US 191 from the Wyoming border to Wellington and near Monticello; US 189, entire route; SR 210, entire route; SR 190, entire route; all other northern Utah routes and most southern Utah routes.

UDOT has reported two additional crashes on eastbound I-80: One at mile post 58 and another at mile post 130.
Powder Mountain Resort is reporting that Highway 158 has reopened after crews towed a UTA bus that had slipped off the road. Ogden Canyon remains closed.
HWY 158 is currently open! All lifts and trails are open with the exception of James Peak. Ogden Canyon is currently closed with no estimated time of reopening due to rock slides. Drive Safe!

UDOT is reporting several crashes on westbound I-80 at mile post 26 in Tooele County, mile post 52 in Tooele County and mile post 57 in Tooele County. There’s also a crash on eastbound I-80 at milepost 62 in Tooele County.
The National Weather Service is urging drivers to slow down and increase distances as reports of crashes are coming in.

12:30 p.m.
KSL meteorologist Grant Weyman is reporting there’s a winter weather advisory in place until 9 a.m. Friday for much of northern Utah, where the storm is expected to drop more snow.
UDOT released an advisory earlier Friday noting that drivers should expect snow on the roads into the evening.
12:15 p.m.
State Route 39 in Ogden Canyon has been closed due to a rock slide and a vehicle accident, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials also noted that Highway 158 is closed while crews attempt to tow a UTA bus that slid off the road.
