SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) — A Utah postal worker is accused of keeping hundreds of parcels for himself.
KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reported Monday that 34-year-old Hector Armando Cortes was arrested late last week for investigation of felony mail theft.
The U.S. Postal Service and law enforcement spent seven months looking into thefts in Salt Lake and Utah counties that started in July.
According to a search warrant affidavit, detectives saw Cortes transfer packages from a work vehicle into his car.
Authorities say roughly 450 parcels were reported stolen or missing on routes that Cortes handled for the Postal Service and contractor OnTrac Logistics.
A phone number for Cortes was not immediately available.
The affidavit also noted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has started deportation proceedings as a result of the investigation.
