MIDAVLE, Utah – A suspected gunman has been arrested following a late night shooting in Midvale that injured two 18 year olds after police say a drug deal gone bad took place.
Currently, 18 year old Randon Cummings is behind bars booked on robbery and aggravated assault charges. Police are still searching for a second suspect.
Unified Police Department says the shooting happened in the area of 7200 South and CATALPA Street.
Police say they received a 911 call just before 10 of shots fired at the Chelsea Park Apartments. Two 18-year-olds were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say while the shooting took place Sunday, it all started Saturday. Cummings and his accomplice set up a drug deal, both men pulled out guns and attempted to rob the drug dealers, but when that didn’t work they set up another deal for Sunday. Police this time say when the alleged drug dealers came out they were ambushed then shot.
Meanwhile, residents are feeling on edge and tell us what they saw and heard.
“There were multiple officers going around the complex with dogs and rifles. They circled about two times while I was out there and my neighbor told me that somebody has gotten shot right next to the pool. So it’s a little bit unsettling,” said Madi Koster, a resident at Chelsea Park.
Police say the victims told them they beat up the outstanding suspect and stabbed him. They also say he is the one who pulled a gun last night.
Just before 11 a.m. KSL 5 TV heard on the police scanners that an 18 year old showed up with a gunshot wound to the University of Utah hospital and it is possibly related to this case. However UPD has not confirmed if it is their suspect.
