HARRISVILLE, Utah – Officers from several agencies shot a man who police said came at them armed with a knife in each hand.
Harrisville Police chief Maxwell Jackson said the incident happened around 5:30 Saturday morning at an apartment complex along Charleston Avenue. He said it was called in as a domestic violence situation.
“People in the apartment complex could hear it going on, had been going on for some time. It seemed to be escalating in violence. We have been here before on related matters,” Jackson said.
Jackson said three officers from Harrisville, Pleasant View, and North Ogden responded. When they arrived at the apartment, Jackson said the man confronted them with knives in his hands.
“The subject did not respond to commands by the officers to disarm, rather advanced on them. A taser was deployed. It proved ineffective. As he continued to advance, he was shot multiple times by the three officers,” Jackson said.
Jackson said the man was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition. There has been no update on his condition since then. Investigators have not released his name.
A task force led by the Weber County Attorney’s Office will review the shooting to determine whether the officers were justified in firing their weapons and whether the man will face any charges.
