VINEYARD, Utah – A 6-year-old was killed in what police say appears to be a tragic accident in Vineyard.
A woman was starting to back out of her driveway and turn out to leave her home, and the little girl rode out in front of the SUV on her scooter. It happened around 3:30 p.m. just west of Vineyard Elementary.
Investigators say the woman was watching up the road as she pulled out when the little girl came out from what police described as a blind spot and went under the front of the SUV.
First responders tried to save the little girl, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. It certainly took a toll on everyone at the scene, and of course, the little girl’s family, police said.
“A six-year-old’s got her whole life ahead of her, and that’s kind of hard to swallow, to realize someone who had a full and happy life ahead of her doesn’t have that anymore,” said Sgt. Spencer Cannon of Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
As investigators look into what happened, they say they don’t believe there was any impairment or negligence involved. They have video from a nearby home security system they’re reviewing, and they’re working to make sure all the family members have been notified.
