“It reached temperatures of over 1,000 degrees. It was able to be seen from the county line. it was a good fire, a lot of heavy, black smoke, a lot of toxins in the air for the firefighters, a lot of precautions we needed to take,” Barton said.
Barton said that man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe burns.
As they worked to get that fire out, Barton said they needed more water than the hydrants could give them.
“Obviously in a rural community, water supply is a big issue for us. We’ve got a couple of hydrants. They don’t have a lot of flow. We brought in tenders from different agencies,” Barton said.
