SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Trolley Square and the surrounding area was temporarily put on lockdown Thursday morning after a report of shots fired in the area.
Police said gunshots were heard shortly after 7:30 a.m. nearby, and they said the suspect then ran onto the property after the shots were fired.
The suspect fired a gun in the area of 500 South and 600 East, officials said.
No injuries were reported, and police don’t know why the gun was fired.
Trolley Square stores weren’t open at the time the suspect reportedly ran onto the property, although the mall doors were open. Businesses and nearby schools were put on temporary lockdown as officials conducted a search.
With the help of Trolley Square surveillance cameras, police said they were quickly able to determine that the suspect got into a vehicle and took off.
“(There’s) not a danger to this immediate area right now,” said Det. Greg Wilking with the Salt Lake City Police Department. “That individual is no longer here.”
The lockdown was lifted shortly afterward.
