WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah—A large police presence doesn’t always mean bad news.
The officers who swarmed to Sizzler, 3429 S. Redwood Rd., weren’t exactly on the hunt for evidence. They were more concerned about a ‘cause.’
“All the tips that are raised tonight are going to go toward (a) fundraiser for the Children’s Justice Center,” said West Valley City Police Department Deputy Chief Robert Hamilton. “We like the Children’s Justice Center. It gives us a great resource in how we deal with some of our most vulnerable victims in the valley.”
Police waited and bussed tables Thursday along with servers and mingled with restaurant patrons.
“They get to interact, see me, joke around with them, and just be who I am with them,” said Officer Danny Wiseman. “I hope they enjoy it.”
Hamilton said this was the 15th year the department has taken part in the fundraising effort.
The department raised over $5,000 Thursday evening.
Diners said they appreciated the opportunity to connect with the police who serve and protect in their community.
“I like (my daughter) to know that they’re not scary,” said Robyn Edmunds. “It’s kind of nice for that as well—so she knows that they’re just people.”
