SANDY, Utah – The Canyons Board of Education announced a tentative agreement to increase teacher salaries by $7,665.
This will be a double-digit percentage boost for every teacher, according to a statement issued by the district, and will bring the starting annual pay to $50,000.
The new starting salary will be the highest in the Salt Lake Valley, and district officials said it will help current teachers as well as attract college students into the profession.
It’s the third year of double-digit salary increases for teachers at Canyons School District.
Officials expect the board to pass a property tax — about $140 per year for the average home in the district — to pay for the salary increases. The vote will happen in August.
