MT. PLEASANT, Utah – A community gathered in Mt. Pleasant Sunday night to remember three teenagers killed in a car accident.
Hundreds of people attended a vigil that was held at the city park honoring Ryan Lyman, 18, Kodi Wheeler, 16, and Julie Oldroyd, 16.
“It warms me to know how much love there is in this world,” said Amber Wheeler, Kodi’s mom.
“The support is just amazing,” said Ann Oldroyd, Julie’s sister. “ It really shows how much people care.”
Julie was supposed to be the maid of honor at Ann’s wedding next month.
The accident happened Friday night on a county road.
Troopers say a car, driven by a 16-year-old girl, came over the top of a hill and ran into the back of a slower-moving flatbed truck.
The car hit the truck and burst into flames.
Julie, Ryan, and Kodi were all passengers in the car.
“What I’ll miss most about Kodi is that she’s always by my side,” said Wheeler. “She helps me with everything.”
All three teens were remembered for having a good heart and making everyone around them happy.
“Kodi would have loved this. Kodi would have loved people bonding, people gathering to strengthen each other,” said Wheeler.
It’s a legacy they’ll leave with the hundreds of lives they’ve touched.
All three of the girls involved in the accident attended North Sanpete High School. A crisis team and grief counselors will be at the school Monday to help any student who needs it.
