SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The SAT is adding an “adversity score” in order to level the playing field for college applicants, officials said.
The adversity score would help admissions officers help determine student hardship, such as economic and educational issues. The score is calculated using 15 factors ranging from quality of high school to crime and poverty levels in a student’s neighborhood.
A scale from 1 – 100 will indicate the student’s hardship or privilege.
Only admissions offices will be able to see the score.
