Man Arrested In Connection With Carjacking Of Van With Child Inside

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Police have arrested a man they say was involved in the carjacking of a minivan that had a child inside.
The arrest happened after a SWAT standoff that started Wednesday just before midnight and ended early Thursday morning.
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, Derek Orr, 29, barricaded himself inside a house on Grove Avenue, which is near 1900 South and West Temple. At approximately 3 a.m., they were able to use an explosive to breach a window.
They were then able to locate Orr inside.
“He was actually on a bed laying under a mattress, trying to be stealthy, I suppose,” SLCPD Lt. Dave Cracroft said.
Two other people were in the house at the time and exited voluntarily.
Neighbors were told to shelter in place during the standoff.
Orr is a person of interest in a carjacking that happened May 16 in Salt Lake City where a man pulled the driver of a minivan from the seat and stole the vehicle A 3-year-old girl, who was in the minivan when it was taken, was later found uninjured.
