LOGAN, Utah – Today search and rescue crews will begin day three of the search for a missing 5-year-old girl in Logan.
Elizabeth Shelley went missing sometime on Saturday morning at her home in Logan near 400 W. 100 S. Around 1 p.m. Saturday, her uncle Alex Whipple, was seen at a gas station in Hyrum, 325 W Main St. Only a few hours later, Whipple was picked up by police in Paradise – about 12 miles from the home, where he was arrested.
Whipple is now in police custody on an unrelated warrant, but is considered a prime suspect in Elizabeth’s disappearance.
Helicopter crews searched Sunday. On Monday, dogs are being brought in to aid in the search.
Elizabeth’s mother told police she checked on the girl early Saturday morning at 2 a.m. That is the last time Elizabeth was seen. Whipple dropped by when Elizabeth was going to bed. When the rest of the household woke up at 10 a.m., Elizabeth and her uncle were missing. Police say Whipple has not been cooperative in the investigation. Homes, cars, and a nearby canal were all searched.
