LOGAN, Utah – Logan police updated the public in a press conference about missing 5-year-old Elizabeth Shelley Monday.
Logan Police Capt. Tyson Budge said Elizabeth’s uncle Alex Whipple showed up Friday evening. When they family went to bed around 2 a.m., they’d seen her in the house. When they awoke around 9 a.m, they observed that Whipple and Elizabeth were gone.
Police immediately organized search parties. Not very long after that, Budge says police were able to identify evidentiary items.
“These items have been forensically tested and they do link Mr. Whipple to our missing child,” Budge said.
Budge said they have evidence that they were together. Whipple failed to identify when police found him, and had drug paraphernalia and a warrant. He was booked on those charges. He was uncooperative in interviews, Budge said.
“He made some statements that we were able to verify as untrue because of the knowledge we had of his whereabouts previously,” Budge said. “We have no reason to believe anything he said was accurate.”
Police served several search warrants on areas of interest.
“We want to ask the public if anyone has seen Mr. Whipple Friday evening, if they would call police,” Budge said.
