Police Searching for Answers in Deadly Kearns Shooting

KEARNS, Utah — The mystery continues around a deadly shooting in Kearns where a man was found dead in the front yard of a home and another man ended up in an emergency room with a gun shot wound.

The call of gunfire came to police at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the area of 4800 South and 4720  West.

“We don’t know what led to this shooting we don’t know who did it or why,” said Unified Police Department Sgt. Melody Gray.

The homeowner where the shooting happened told KSL TV’s Dan Rascon that her son is currently living there. She said he is okay but that she has not been able to talk to him, because he’s being interviewed by police.

Her sister believes a couple living in an RV on the property since February and just evicted yesterday may have something to do with it.

“It’s just horrible. The whole thing is horrible,” said Lavon Robinson. “Nobody should be shot it’s just horrible”

Robinson approached the couple in the RV as KSL TV was talking to them on camera about the shooting.

“Don’t believe the words these guys say they have been squatters since February. Don’t believe what they say they are the ones who probably caused all these problems,” she shouted to the man and woman. “Oh definitely this has something to do with them.”

But Steve Nielsen and Dolly, who didn’t want to give their last name, say they are innocent and are just trying to get their live together.

“I have no idea [what happened]. I can’t give you any information about what is going on with that,” said Nielsen.

“Neither one of us have a record. We had good jobs, we are trying to get back on our feet again after some relationships failed. That’s all there is to it,” said Dolly.
